Llandrindod Wells
landrindod Wells Townscape Heritage Initiative 2004- 2009
Llandrindod Wells is a Victorian town with many original old properties. To stop further deterioration and the loss of the Historic fabric, Powys County Council made an application to the Heritage Lottery to establish a Townscape Heritage Initiative within the centre of Llandrindod to ensure the high quality repair & restoration of its buildings. This includes reinstatement of lost Architectural features.
These projects went out to tender to a chosen few specialist builders.
This work consisted of external works only, reroofing, chimneys, windows restoration in situ and cast iron rain water goods and much more.
The T.H.I. Is very much a conservation grant scheme with emphasis placed on conservation principles, traditional methods & materials appropriate to the building.
The T.H.I. Was set up with funding from PCC, Heritage Lottery Fund, CADW and the former WDA, with support from non- funding partners including the Spa Town Trust Action Team. Later in the project additional funds injected were from The Welsh Assembly Government- Environmental improvement grant programme.
Robert Taylor Building & Joinery Services ltd was able to succeed in carrying out no less than 9 of these projects.
We have our own workshop which helped us produce exact match moulding, cills, glazing bars etc to carry out these works.
Our skills in using Lime mortar and plaster came in very useful for all the repointing works.
Some pictures of finished works.
